Getting here from Maidstone

By car About 25 minutes

It's roughly 14 miles from the centre of Maidstone, running south down the A229 and turning off towards Marden. Once you're here there's on-road parking on Pattenden Lane, usually right outside the studio, and always space on Sovereigns Way 30 seconds away.

You won't need to hunt for a space or feed a meter, which matters more than it sounds when you're arriving with a small child and a change bag.

By train About 45 minutes

There's no direct train, but it's a straightforward one-change journey: Maidstone West down the Medway Valley Line to Paddock Wood, then two stops along the main line to Marden. Services run roughly hourly, and the studio is a 4 minute walk from Marden station.

For families without a car this is a genuinely workable option — more so than most Kent journeys of that distance.

Why Maidstone parents get in touch

Kent's NHS speech and language therapy services are stretched, and a wait measured in months is hard to sit with when your two-year-old isn't talking and every week feels like it counts. That's often what prompts the first call.

Other reasons families get in touch:

  • A second opinion. You've been told to wait and see, and you're not convinced.
  • Evidence for an EHCP. A detailed independent assessment report to go alongside a school or local authority process.
  • Therapy alongside NHS input. Not instead of it — in addition, at a frequency that actually shifts things.
  • A nursery has raised a concern and you want to understand what it means before the next parents' evening.
If you're not sure which of these you are, that's exactly what the free 15 minute call is for. It costs nothing and often brings a lot of clarity.

How it works

What a Maidstone family's first few weeks look like

A free phone call

Fifteen minutes, no cost, no travel. Tell me what's worrying you and I'll give you honest general recommendations — including if I think you don't need me.

One trip to Marden

The initial assessment is 1 – 1.5 hours, so you make the drive once and leave with verbal feedback the same day rather than waiting on a report.

Then whatever fits

Weekly sessions in the studio, or a home programme you carry out in Maidstone with a demo session and a review — often the better answer when travel is the constraint.

Maidstone questions

Questions I get asked from Maidstone

Is it worth travelling to Marden when there are therapists in Maidstone?

That's a fair question and the honest answer is: only if the fit is right. What I'd say is that I'm an Early Years specialist with six years as Head of an Early Years Therapy Team in an 'Outstanding' specialist school, so if your child is young or has complex needs, that specialism may be worth 25 minutes in the car. If they're older or the need is straightforward, a closer therapist may serve you just as well — and I'll tell you that on the free call.

Can you see my child in Maidstone instead?

The first appointment is always in my Marden studio, because it's set up properly for assessment. After that, depending on what your child needs, I'll either keep seeing them in the studio or visit their school where that's the right thing to do. Ask me about visits to Maidstone settings.

Can you work alongside my child's school or nursery in Maidstone?

Yes. Where it's appropriate I visit children in their education setting, and a written therapy programme can be carried out at school as well as at home — it includes a demo session so supporting adults can see how the activities work, plus a review at the end to assess progress.

When are appointments available?

Monday to Friday, between 8am and 5pm. I don't currently offer evening or weekend appointments.

For school-age children that usually means a daytime slot and some time out of school. Plenty of families work around it — and if timing is the obstacle, say so on the free call and we'll see what's possible.
